Pre-requisites: None, however it is helpful that the participant have a background in soft tissue/spinal mobilization and spinal biomechanics/ stabilization. Basic concepts of these topics will be covered in the context of the golf swing.

Dress: Please wear loose fitting shorts and clothing for lab.
Equipment: A 5 iron. If you cannot bring this due to arriving via plane, one will be provided.
COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is a special one day format for the BACKtoGOLF Seminar. The golf swing will be viewed from a biomechanical perspective, looking at how postural compensations influence the golf swing. The mechanics of the spine and extremities will be analyzed in the context of the golf swing. Video of the golf swing and the dysfunctional compensations in different age groups, both men and women, will be analyzed. The lab will include a tournament protocol for stretching and joint mobilizationsequence for golfers, correction of common spinal dysfunctions that golfers demonstrate. Marketing and interaction with golf teaching professionals will be discussed. Post- operative rotator cuff repair, total knee and hip management for golfers will be reviewed. There will be a 2 hour follow-up webinar for further swing analysis and advanced exercise prescription, by arrangement with the class.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, you'll be able to:

  • Learn biomechanics of the golf swing.
  • Learn relationship of myofascial, osteokinematics, and arthrokinmatics of the full golf swing.
  • Learn postural compensations and how they influence the golf swing.
  • Learn golf swing phases and evaluate the golf swing using the BACKtoGOLF Six Step Evaluation.
  • Identify common swing faults and their consequences.
  • Apply a "tournament stretch protocol" and exercises.
  • Develop a golf performance program within a variety of settings.
  • Market and communicate with golf professionals regarding the golf swing and concepts of the Stabilized Spine Golf Swing ™.
  • Learn how to treat golf related injuries.
  • Learn how to use various equipment and training aides to enhance program outcomes.
